Operation Christmas Child (OCC)

A small shoebox can teach a child about the love of God and the love of his people. It can provide a means by which to share the good news with children, inspire pastors, and plant new churches throughout the world.  It is possible to change lives through the power of a simple gift.  Samaritan's Purse has distributed over 100 million boxes worldwide.

Lafayette has supported Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child since 2008 at which time we filled 38 boxes and sent them on their way.  We've grown in this ministry over the years and have been blessed in countless ways by answering God's call to share the good news.

In 2014, we set up a packing room in the Christian Education Building, received generous donations and were able to send 184 boxes.  From 184, we increased to 209 in 2016 when the shipping & handling was paid by a generous donation to Samaritan's Purse.

Going from 38 boxes to 209 boxes in 9 years has truly been the work of God, and we give him the glory for allowing us to be part of it.

This year God provided for us to make 170 boxes and collect the shipping and handling through very generous donations.  We look forward to being a part of God's plan for these children in whatever way he leads us in the future.  Praise God.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School
at Lafayette is filled with excitement, energy, and God’s word! It’s not just for our members and families! We enthusiastically invite the community—even those of other churches or traditions.

Our VBS isn’t just a mass-produced program from “out of a box!” We create our own program, and it is intergenerational (yup! it’s for EVERYONE,) educational, fast-paced, and fun!

In the past several years we’ve learned to trust the Lord with “Jesus is My Rock,” we’ve visited “Nazareth Village,” the hometown of Jesus, and we’ve learned about our city and its history with “Jesus Loves Tallahassee.”

Our schedule is absolutely UNIQUE!

VBS begins with a 6:00 PM Thursday night dinner in mid-July! We introduce our theme and leaders, and we have hands-on fun.

VBS reconvenes on Sunday afternoon beginning at 3:00 PM, with booths, displays, learning centers, crafts, music, and recreation. We conclude with an informal Sunday meal.

How can you help? We need story-tellers, re-enactors, kitchen helpers, crafty helpers, class leaders, go-fers, and supply donations.

Watch for opportunities to sign up or to donate!
