Girl Scout Troop 4023 Brownies
Girl Scout Troop 4023 began meeting at Lafayette Presbyterian Church in April 2019. We strive to create a girl-led environment with opportunities for leadership and teamwork. The girls selected and earned several badges this year, including: Three Cheers for Animals, World of Girls, Fair Play, Potter, First Aid, and Give Back. In addition, we are working on a multi-session Wonders of Water journey, which will wrap up in 2020. Girl Scouts are taught to solve problems and care for the world around them. As such, our troop emphasizes the importance of giving back through outreach and service projects. Our 2019 projects included a cleanup day at Tom Brown Park, Christmas caroling and crafting at Tapestry Senior Living, a coat drive for local children, and participation in the Elder Care Services Elder Elf program. Cub Scout Pack 10
The Cub Scout program serves boys and, starting in 2019, girls in elementary school, grades K-5, ages 5-10. The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by installing in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. There are four aims of Scouting: citizenship, character, personal fitness, and leadership. The methods of Cub Scouting are living the ideals, belonging to a den, advancement, family involvement, activities, serving the community, and the uniform. In 2019 Pack 10 earned the Gold Level of the BSA Journey To Excellence program for the third year in a row and the Summertime Pack Award. We provided more than 100 hours of service to the community, including planting a tree on church grounds with more tree-plantings planned. To learn more, click the Annual Report button at the right. Boy Scout Troop 10
Troop 10 had a very productive 2019. Starting the troop had 4 scouts obtain the highest rank of Eagle Scout (Terrance Mosley, Jackson Roberts, Austin Wilbourn, and Grant Birtman). Our other scouts have been just as productive. The troop participated with the Pack and Crew with Scouting for Food, attended summer camp at Wallwood, and camped at some fantastic parks in the year.
Troop 10 is now meeting in the white building behind the church, nicknamed ‘The Rock’. The scouts are very grateful to have their own space for the meetings. With supplies provided by the church, we have added new outside lights with sensors, which is great for our outside activities. The troop looks forward for the continued support from the church congregation and a fruitful 2020 year. Venturing Crew 10
Venturing is a program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women, age 14 through 20. Venturing develop organizational skills and leadership while planning and carrying out fun activities. Crews often focus on a particular theme and Crew 10 has selected outdoor adventure and service as primary interests. Crew 10 celebrated our eighth birthday on June 24, 2019. During the course of the year, we remained relatively stable at about 12 youth. The Crew President is currently Aiko Austin. Crew activities in 2019 included an overnight canoe trip on the Suwannee River, enjoying a local Venturing Super Weekend plus two out-of-council Venturing weekends, nearly escaping a breakout room, serving on National Youth Leadership Training staff, enjoying a bonfire at the church, a day at Wakulla Springs, team-building activities, Scout Sunday at the church, planning meetings, a holiday party, and service projects. The service projects totaled 835 hours and included collecting food for the Scouting For Food drive, Coastal Cleanup, Cub Scout Day Camp, Scout Day at the Capital, Kidsfest (Kids Inc.), Tiger Prowl for first-year Cub Scouts, Cub Family Weekend, Webelos Woods for older Cub Scouts, 2nd Harvest (Crawfordville), Farm Share (Crawfordville), Soul Santa, Winter Camp, and a few projects at the church. The crew earned the top “Gold Level” in Scouting’s “Journey to Excellence” unit evaluation for 2019, for the 9th year in a row. For 2020, the crew plans to hike, camp, canoe, attend Venturing Super Weekends, staff/attend National Youth Leadership Training, assist with the Olustee Civil War Battle Reenactment, and enjoy serving others.
